Why No Trash Receptacles?

Many parks like Lincoln Woods State Park do not have receptacles for patrons to discard their trash.  Of the many reasons for this one is, these receptacles would become an artificial food source for the wildlife which may lead to health complications and dependency.  In addition it would provide a site for illegal dumping by criminals.

Carry-In/Carry-Out

The State of Rhode Island has a "Carry-In, Carry-Out policy for trash. WHY?

Less Mess: Removal of the trash receptacles from these lands eliminates the smell and mess they create.  It also cuts down on the birds and insects at the beach or in the park.

Additionally;

  • To discourage and limit illegal dumping within state property.

  • To limit waste left behind in parks which negatively affects the wildlife.

  • Trash receptacles interrupt the natural beauty of state parks.
